Holiday Shops Kiosks

Modular kiosks in the holiday market of Bryant Park's Winter Village

Redesigned for the 2016-2017 Winter Village season, 220 kiosks created 131 individual shops in Bryant Park. The design is an evolution from the Crystal Palace, which was in Bryant Park in 1853. Often called "jewel boxes", the kiosks glow from within, displaying wares in warm and eye-catching way, and their distinctive roofs echo the London Plane trees in the allees and the asymmetrical temporary structures around the ice rink.

The design prioritizes ease of set up, breakdown, and maintenance, display of merchandise, and clean organization of all "back--of-house" storage, utilities, etc. Signage is clear and lighting is festive. Vendors can fit out their interiors (and signage for food vendors) in a way that both strengthens their business and presents an organized aesthetic.

The kiosks' modular components can form three different sizes, and are made from a simple panel system that's easy for small installation teams to maneuver. Polycarbonate glazing is easily swappable and is either clear or translucent. The kiosks can be used in Single, Row, and Group (Rows that are back-to-back) configurations. Various configurations allow for different types of vendors, sizes of shops, and retail environments. The system can accommodate both retail and food vendors.

The Holiday Shops Kiosks won a GOOD Design award in 2018 from the Chicago Athenaeum, and were a Finalist for the IDEA Awards the same year, from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
